The Skeptical Survivalist grew up in the mountains of eastern Kentucky as the son of a fundamentalist Christian preacher. He learned how to live, at times, without electricity or running water, and frequently ate from the garden and wild game. Growing up on a farm he learned, among many other useful skills, animal husbandry, the value of hard work, and gun safety.
Later on he went to college and got a degree in philosophy and a Masters in library science.
Traditionally a social liberal with libertarian feelings on gun control, freedom of speech, and privacy, he continues to have faith in the ideals of the republic, if not in the practical application of those ideals.
Today he lives in the south and works a day job while focusing on his family and developing plans and provisions in preparation for emergency - whatever that may be.
