France’s Agriculture Minister Bruno Le Maire warns that food riots are inevitable if developed nations don’t find long-term solutions to spiraling world commodity prices.
Le Maire, visiting for talks before a gathering of G20 agriculture ministers in Paris in June, said Thursday that costs are soaring because barely enough food is being produced for the world’s people.
Le Maire says the uneasy balance between current need and production could be easily tilted by a major flood or drought affecting crops. He says developed nations should help poorer ones, but co-operation among developing countries is equally important.
